Spaensweerd is one of 350 historical stately homes in the Netherlands which are still inhabited privately. It is situated on foreland of the river IJssel, just outside the village of Brummen on the road towards the ferry going to Bronkhorst. The house has defied many times the river’s water at high tide, when it overflowed its banks.
Spaensweerd is the ideal central location for day trips to Holland’s beautiful Hanze cities (old trade towns situated along the IJssel). Then there is also Holland’s smallest village “Bronkhorst”. The stunning scenic and varied landscape of the river’s valley and the area of the Achterhoek can also be explored very well by bicycle.
Local museums include the Kröller-Müller in the Veluwe National Park, the Queen’s Palace ’t Loo in Apeldoorn and the Henriëtte Polak Museum in Zutphen.
Spaensweerd is a ****hotel without a restaurant which enables guests to enjoy their stay within a historical ambiance combined with much attention to detail.
